Teamsters Local 848
Eric Tate
Eric Tate-I hope you and your family enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving. Ballots were mailed on November 8th. If you have not received a ballot, please call Maryanne at the Covina office - (626) 732-4700 ext. 113. Please make sure to vote!
Jess Nevarez - Pepsi - the contract is going to print as I write this and should be available very soon. Thanks to the members for their patience and stewards Rick Reina and Louie Rivera for their input, time and hard work. Coke – reminder: if you feel your discipline is unjust, contact your steward or myself at any time so that we can file a grievance in a timely manner. Contact me or your steward immediately after you have been disciplined, you have ten days to file a grievance per the contract. Newport Meats - we will be conducting a steward election by the first week of December. I will post a notice for nominations and you can nominate anyone willing to serve. West Pico Foods - nice to see all of you again at the annual bid. Remember to conduct proper pre-trip and post-trip inspections. Make sure to document any defects or damage to the equipment. It’s all about safety and protecting yourself by documenting any issue wrong with the truck. Don't hesitate to call me with any questions.
Carol Grey - I'm happy to announce that we recently won an arbitration against First Transit Gardena. Driver Jerome Mitchell won all his back pay, pension, seniority and everything we were asking after being wrongfully terminated December 2009.....so congratulations. We also won several other cases against First Transit Gardena. Many thanks to Eric Tate for all his help and support. I also like to thank Joe Pimentel for all his help and support during my recent time off.
Joe Pimentel - a very happy holiday season to every member! MV Access Van Nuys – letters have been sent to nominees for acceptance on the new steward election, ballots will follow soon. Make sure to keep an eye on your MDT for new trips or de-combined trips, request trips when this happens. No one should be sent home without a trip after their lunch. As you know the holidays are a slow period and your schedules may be affected, make sure to question seniority when sent home early and file a grievance if there is a violation. Dash South Region – make sure to put in a request in writing to revoke your meal period waiver if you choose to take a lunch. By the time this is sent out you should be at the permanent Compton location. Report any contract violations to your stewards. Dash Package 1 – a letter was sent requesting negotiations for a new contract, we will be holding a proposal meeting soon. Keep an eye on the Union board. A new ballot will be sent to your homes for a tiebreaker in the recent steward election; make sure you update your address with the Local. LADOT North Region – early next year both Commuter Express and Dash 3 will be moving in to the Sylmar location. We are making contact with Coach America to make sure the transition will be fluid. Dash 4 – keep an eye on your vacation time, there continues to be some discrepancies on accruals. Contact my office if you feel there is a problem with your hours.
Gordon Ament - LA Regional Foodbank - I would remind you that as Teamsters and members of this Local with a collective bargaining agreement that fear and intimidation from your employer will only happen if you allow it to. Document the incident and speak with a steward so we can address these issues. VPS –our next meeting will be held on January 14. Watch your mail for further information.
Ralph Black – Sygma negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement should be completed by press time. Thanks to shop stewards Juan Almaguer and Anthony Hill on their diligence during the long hours of negotiations. Also, thanks to Keenan Pickett and business representative Tom Tullius for assisting in this process.
Tom Tullius - ARA/Cory – the first round of negotiations went well. By the time you read this I hope to have completed negotiations and we’ll get together to vote the offer. Keep an eye on your mail and bulletin board for more information. Exel – several drivers have given the company their new addresses and the relocation checks are being sent. Remember to let our office know your new address. Very important. Farmer Bros. – received many questionnaires and hope to get more. Once I formulate them I’ll call a meeting to discuss issues. Gallo Wine – negotiations scheduled for November 22, 29 and 30. The other Local has not finalized their negotiations yet but they hope to get an offer ratified soon. SWS drivers – Driver to Warehouse posting procedure will be sent soon. There will be a JLM to discuss issues, among them the company use of outside carriers, overtime in the warehouse and training. SWS Sales – I continue to try and work with the company to go over the number and names of their House Accounts in an effort to confirm they are within the contract. I have received nothing. There are no new dates to restart the negotiations. Due to the season I would venture discussions should start up after the first of the year. YMC Sales – same applies to your contract negotiations as mentioned in the SWS Sales. Erik Lagafuaina - Nissan North America negotiations are rapidly approaching. It's going to take everyone’s hard work and unity to get a good agreement! Congratulations to recent retirees of Standard Concrete Zeke Quon and Dave Morris. CPC Concrete Services please check with myself or steward Jeff Hoover on recent agreement with company regarding work at other plants. Thanks for your help, Jeff! All drivers-please double check and take your time and fill out all driver paperwork completely.
